Clinical pathology involves the laboratory evaluation of blood, fluids or body tissues in order to identify existing disease. Common laboratory tests include blood chemistries, complete blood counts, blood clotting times, urinalysis, faecal tests, biopsy examination, cultures and infectious disease testing.
We have invested in the most up-to-date inhouse blood testing machines available. Our machines are from 'Idexx', a world leader in this technology. Our full blood profiles include, complete blood counts (looks at red bloods cells and their components, all the types of white blood cells, platelets and their components), chemistry and electrolytes (kidney, liver, pancreas function, glucose and electrolyte levels).
We are also one of two clinics in the wider region that have a machine that tests blood clotting pathways which is extremely valuable when assessing an animal for snakebites, ratbait poisoning etc.
Turn around time can be within 1/2 an hour if required urgently.
Other samples such as cell or tissue samples and some blood samples are sent to the Idexx laboratory in Brisbane for specialist testing and interpretation. Your Veterinarian will advise you how long the results may take.
We can also do basic urine and faecal testing at the clinic when needed.
